In den frühen 80ziger Jahren wohnte Herman mit seiner Familie eine zeitlang in Tiznit, Marokko. Das Haus lag zwischen Wüste und Meer, in den Fenstern gab es kein Glas. Das Licht strömte hinein, aber auch der Sand wenn der Wind stark blies. Herman malte und verdiente etwas Geld in dem er die Lernbücher für die kleine Schule im Ort illustrierte. Von der Malerei aus dieser Zeit ist nur wenig übriggeblieben. Zwei der Bilder sind hier zu sehen.

During the early 80s, Herman and his family lived in Tiznit, Morocco for a while. The house lay between the desert and the ocean, and the windows had no glass. The light flooded the rooms and sometimes so did the sand when the wind was particularly strong. Herman painted and earned a bit of money illustrating textbooks for the small, local school. The two paintings shown here are amongst the few that still exist from this period.

A principios de los ochenta, Herman y su familia vivieron un tiempo en Tiznit, Marruecos. La casa se encontraba entre el desierto y el océano, y las ventanas no llevaban cristales. La luz inundaba las habitaciones y a veces, cuando el viento soplaba fuerte, la arena también. Herman pintaba y ganaba algo de dinero ilustrando libros de texto en la pequeña escuela local. Los dos cuadros mostrados aquí son entre los pocos que aún existen de ese período.
